  • In case you missed it... The Wild Bunch rides again.

The wild bunch reunion ocurred September 15 - 18, 2011 on McCartney Land & Cattle Company, north of Kirksville, Mo.  The horse without rider in the left edge of the photo, represents those brothers who did not attend the reunion.  You guys know who you are, but maybe others don't remember that way back when, Rick Wardlow '71, Tom Albertson '71, Larry Naysmith '71, and even John Tallman '68 were packin' heat and riding the range.  Those in the photo, from left to right are, Ed Herring '70, Mike Miller '71, David Birk '69, Dan Prosser '71, and host Mike McCartney '71. Word out of nearby "Lick Skillet" indicates there were no winners or losers, only survivors.

Alpha Gamma Rho Summer Event, July 23, 2011

A group once known as the North Missouri AGR’s are taking their party and moving south this summer. The AGR picnics that began in Larry Warren’s (’65) airplane hanger before moving to the Litton Agricultural Center, and the University of Missouri Forage Center in Linnus are now heading south to Brunswick, Missouri.

Bill Jackson (2010) has invited us to tour the Brunswick AgriService facility just west of Brunswick, Mo at 2 p.m. After the tour, we will move to the Coast Guard Inn, located about one mile south of Brunswick near the Grand River. It will accommodate about 30 folks inside and Larry says “.... we can spill over into the parking lot or other outside area if we have more (and I hope we do.)”

The event is for any and all AGRs, families, and recruits who want to come, regardless of age, chapter, or state geography. Larry and his committee request that “Because it is to be a family event, and a recruitment opportunity for Missouri chapters, we ask that it be alcohol free.”

The committee plans to get some pork chops and perhaps other meat products from that world-famous Salisbury meat processor that Stanton Thompson (’67) put us onto a few years back. If you have any other specialties, bring them along. A donation will be taken at the door to help cover food cost. If you want to help, or just want more information contact Larry Warren lrwarren@greenhills.net. If you need directions contact Bill Jackson Bill@AgriServices.com.

    SBJ Staff

Gov. Jay Nixon on Jan. 26 nominated Cassville man Donald Cupps to serve on the University of Missouri Board of Curators for a term ending Jan. 1, 2017. The board oversees operation of the university's four campuses at Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, according to a news release from the governor's office.

Cupps practices law as the attorney for the city of Cassville, as the attorney for the Barry County Industrial Development Authority and at his own practice, Ellis, Cupps and Cole PC, also of Cassville.

He serves on the board of trustees for the Public School Retirement System of Missouri and has previous board experience for the South Barry County Hospital District, the County Employee Retirement Fund and the Cassville Industrial Development Corporation.

"Don Cupps has long-standing, strong ties to the University of Missouri and to rural Missouri,” Nixon said in the release. Cupps obtained his bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri and his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law. His wife, Mary, both of his parents, and his brother, David, also are graduates of the university.

The University of Missouri Board of Curators consists of nine members appointed by the governor. Appointments are subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.

"His dedication to public education and community service, and his experience in the business and agricultural communities will serve the people of Missouri well on the board of curators," Nixon said in the release. "I know he will continue to be a strong voice for rural Missouri in this position.”
